"I've eaten at the River cafe a number of times (about six) and have always found it to be good to very good for what you pay. Yes, it's expensive, as anything good in London is, but I don't ever feel ripped off if I go there - it always helps if someone else pays too :)I've personally had great service there, especially from the wine guys. Tell them how much you want to spend and what you like, and you'll get a very decent bottle. If you like wine you can have a great discussion and learn something new too."

Maria said on 30th November ... "Food was decent. Nothing to rave about. Service however was the worst I have ever experienced. The hostess was downright rude when we walked in without a booking and acted like she was handing us a grammy award when she somehow managed to find one. (even though several were empty)"

Leanne said on 10th July ... "Had a fantastic steak however I think the hygiene at the restaurant is poor. I don’t usually complain however I did and they simply fobbed it off and ignored it.
What a pity because the fact that I never complain and when I actually did I was ignored, I will make sure that this restaurant doesn't receive a good review as they should not be in business with their poor level of customer service.
I will NEVER eat there again because of there attitude!"

Sophia Wong said on 15th March ... ""The ingredients are unfussy and the prices will give you vertigo. Some feel a bit cheated at paying such high prices for simplicity. The clean flavours are a winner and the fresh seafood competes with Rick Stein's creations (and his place in Padstow is much closer to the sea). The wine menu is extensive and the helpful, knowledgeable waitress was on hand to advise. But it is a lot of money. Go to impress or to empty your bank account out.""

Mark Joy said on 15th March ... ""Don't expect them to play fair with their waiting lists. I put my name down earlier in the week and was told I was high on the list. Today they refused to tell me whether I was one cancellation or 10 away from getting a table. Clearly the cancellation system works on the basis of who they want to let in not who was first in the queue. I have been to the restaurant many times and love the food but am getting very down about their self-centred attitude to customers and continually putting their own reputation ahead of the interests of their eager customers"."

Mark J Kacary said on 15th March ... ""Surprised to read some of the reviews relating to The River Cafe. A Lot of Money? well maybe yes, but then isn't anything which is good? It is Italian in the truly classic case of Italian cuisine. It is not a Trattoria so no Bolognese but then again if you eat from a genuinely Italian restaurant in Italy then you would not find that on their menu either. Yes it has a reputation and yes like all good restaurants they will have a waiting list which might not always seem fair, but then again part of the attraction for people is to be eating near to somebody they recognise and lets face it fame and fortune does not always equal forward planning and booking restaurant tables weeks in advance. For food which will last in your memory at a price that may be high but not pretentiously it is unbeatable.""

Jo M said on 15th March ... ""Famous restaurants can sometimes rest on their laurels, but I don't believe this to be the case with the restaurant that shot Jamie Oliver to fame. The food is consistently beautiful, the dining room lovely as ever and the staff really look like they care. My only criticism is the prices are very little high, but I suppose this is London, however I don't think there is any excuse to charge upwards of £27 for a main. You'd be better saving your money for a cheap flight to Italy.""

Philippa said on 15th March ... ""We had some USA friends staying and were looking for somewhere special to take them. The River Cafe proved to be the perfect restaurant in the perfect location. The food was fabulous, the service friendly and professional. The desserts were superb, particularly the Chocolate Nemesis. The bill came to £200 for 4 which included 2 starters, 4 mains, 2 desserts and 2 bottles of wine. Not outrageous for a great evening.""
