Sutherlands Delicatessen - a blast from the past
Sutherlands delicatessen is a quaint little shop located in the heart of Shepherd's Bush. Founded in 1989 it contains a myriad of British and continental goods that are guaranteed to make your taste buds come alive.
The smell as you walk through the door is amazing and whips you straight out of West London, off to somewhere much more comfortable and warm. Various varieties of freshly ground coffee are available and fill the shop with one of the fullest, richest smells you can imagine.
If you are a cheese fanatic this is definitely not a place to sniff at, Sutherlands stock an incredible range of over 40 cheeses, ranging from the creamiest brie to the sharpest Roquefort. If you are like me and like a little tipple to accompany your cheese do not despair there is a plentiful supply of rich reds, crisp whites and beautifully aromatic desert wines.
There is a little coffee shop at the rear, which will take you back years to your aunties kitchen in the Yorkshire dales. There is hot tea, served in cute little pots, cups and saucers and hot scones or a naughty selection of cakes that make me think of that god-forbidden phrase "A second on the lips, a lifetime on the hips."
These kind of tea shops/deli's almost make me weep with nostalgia and make me think of a better Britain and a better life, a definate must if you are entertaining your granny for the afternoon.
